It can be challenging to find a spring break destination that meets everyone’s needs. As busy parents, we crave and need down time. Depending on where you live, you might crave some sunshine. Scottsdale, Arizona offers both and a whole lot more. In fact, visit Scottsdale and you’ll have an unforgettable time experiencing the spa, spring training and sunshine. Start planning your trip for next spring!
Spa time
As part of the Hot Mom Spa Squad (it’s a tough job, but someone’s got to do it), I have the pleasure of reviewing some of the best spas around. I’m very fortunate that I live in Scottsdale. It’s a spa mecca that offers a variety of indulgent experiences. This month, I visited Jurlique Spa for a quick manicure and pedicure.
Jurlique Spa is located at the FireSky Resort & Spa in Scottsdale which is a member of the Kimpton Hotels. I’ve had the pleasure of staying at a number of Kimpton’s boutique hotels (one of my favorites is Hotel Triton in San Francisco), and their service and style are always outstanding.
The entrance to the spa looks more like the front doors of a cottage. I’m always amazed at how good structural design and landscaping can transport you to another time and place. As I stepped onto the resort property, I instantly felt like I was away on vacation, despite being in the City of Scottsdale.
Jurlique Spa is a holistic spa offering treatments based on all-natural ingredients. They follow a philosophy of natural rejuvenation and offer:
- Certified organic and biodynamic herbs from our own herb farms
- Unique Bio-Intrinsic extraction method that captures the life force of the plants, enhancing their potency
- Based on natural, plant-derived ingredients
- Hypo-allergenic and pH balanced
- No animal products, and none that have been tested on animals
- Biodegradable and environmentally friendly
- Private adjoining baths for all treatment rooms
- Spa Boutique, offering Jurlique skin and body care products, retail items and rare gifts
Kellee provided my nail treatment. As a busy mom, I’m always short on time, but Kellee was quick and gave me a lovely manicure and pedicure. What I loved most about my visit was that it felt like I was passing time at the spa with a gal pal. Kellee is a mom of a preschooler, so we talked at length about navigating the world of Mom.
If you haven’t heard of the national Spa Week event yet, you’ll definitely want to learn more about how you can score a $50 wellness and spa treatment at a participating spa in your area. Spa Week occurs twice each year – once in the spring and fall. The spring Spa Week event occurs in April. You can find a spa and book your spa week treatment at SpaWeek.com.
Major League Baseball spring training games
If you (or your significant other) are a fan of Major League Baseball, traveling to Scottsdale and the greater Phoenix area should be on your bucket list. About half of the MLB teams come to the Phoenix area each spring to play Cactus League exhibition games. These teams include the following:
- Arizona Diamondbacks
- Chicago White Sox
- Oakland A’s
- Chicago Cubs
- Kansas City Royals
- San Diego Padres
- Cincinnati Reds
- Los Angeles Angels
- Seattle Mariners
- Cleveland Indians
- Los Angeles Dodgers
- San Francisco Giants
- Colorado Rockies
- Milwaukee Brewers
- Texas Rangers
We watched the Seattle Mariners play the Arizona Diamondbacks at the Salt River Fields at Talking Stick Resort. We sat on the lawn on a blanket with five kids between two families and enjoyed the game, watched people, soaked up sunshine (it was almost 80 degrees!) and ate kettle corn and snow cones.
Sunshine
Arizona may not be the official “Sunshine State” (we’re the “Grand Canyon State”), but you’ll most likely have pretty amazing weather while you’re visiting during spring break or spring training season. Arizona is mostly known for being hot and having a desert climate, but before you visit, plan your trip by understanding the weather. Arizona has a variety of climates. You could golf or watch a spring training game in 80 degree weather and ski the same day in Flagstaff.
Plan on packing hats, sunscreen and clothes you can layer. Check out our tips to protect yourself and your kids from the sun.

I’m heading to Scottsdale for the first time at the end of April. Thank you for the extra help of what to do there.
shasherslife How fun, Shannon! Will you be going alone or with the family? Either way, there’s so much to do.
themomiverse I’m heading there with my husband a few days before attending Mom2Summit, my sister is flying in from BC to join me at the conference while my husband tours and golfs during the days. 🙂
shasherslife Sounds wonderful! Mom2Summit will be at a great hotel. Schedule some spa time for yourself! I moved to Colorado at the end of November and I’m not attending Mom2Summit this year. It would have been fun to meet up with you!
